Wines Region Country Source Cost Comments
1. Mas de Bressades Cuvée Tradition 2008 Costières de Nîmes (Roussanne, Grenache, Viogier & Marsanne) Rhône
France Oddbins/ Majestic
£8.99
13%. Golden colour, a clean nose and a balanced body. A touch of oak, fresh and balanced with relatively big flavours finishing a touch hot. A popular wine.
2. Domaine Sainte Rose La Nuit Blanche 2008 Côtes de Thongue (Roussanne)
Languedoc
France
£9.00
13%. Menthol and rich fruit nose. Elegant and fruity, maybe a little light and short of acidity. A hint of toffee and an oily texture.
3. D'Arenberg  2008 The Money Spider, McLaren Vale (Roussanne)
South Australia
Australia

£13.00
13.5%. A big, brutish, petrol-nose. A touch of petrol  in the flavour too with sweet fruit but a thin finish. Comments “big and fruity” “flat in the centre”.
4. Kangarilla Road 2007 McLaren Vale Viognier South Australia
Australia
£10 - £11
14%. Parma violets on the nose and some found oak/petrol. Lots of flavour and decent acidity but not yet married, pleasant.
5. Louis Cheze Pagus Luminis 2008 Condrieu
Rhône
France
£31.00
14%. A sweet nose of apricots, nuts with honey and a touch of pear drops. Full bodied with a lemon citrus attack, smooth fruit and honey balanced with acidity. A subtle and complex set of flavours to the end, though maybe a little flat on the mid-palate. A star wine.
6. Cigale 2007 Barossa Grenache, Mourvèdre & Shiraz South Australia
Australia Majestic
£12.00

14.5%. A big nose of tar, liquorice and raisins which carried on into the flavour. Well made with some complexity and sweet fruit (Raspberry Jam) on the mid-palate but soft tannins, lacking grip. A straight forward, comfortable wine  just to drink, not to think about..but a bit expensive?

7.   (Bodegas Castaño) Dominio Espinal 2008Organic Monastrell, Yecla D.O.  Murcia
Spain
£6.99

14.5%.  A good nose; soft, fruity and dusty. A a smooth, sweetish approach on the palate that firmed up into a slightly tannic, if rustic finish. A touch astringent.

8. Cline Cellars 2007 Small Berry Mourvèdre, Contra Costa Country
California
U.S.A.
£19.99
15%. A strong, medicinal nose. Very sophisticated on the palate; balanced with integrated, smooth tannins, textured, hints of mint, bramble and violets, but somehow lacked interest.
9.  Matetic Vineyards 2007 "EQ”  Syrah
San Antonio Valley
Chile Majestic
£20.00

14%. A big fruity, liquorice nose with vanilla and a touch of cassis. Full bodied flavour, a little youthful at first bit develops smooth complexity, with a touch of astringency at the finish.

10. Domaine de Thalabert 2005 Crozes Hermitage, Paul Jaboulet Aîné
Rhône
France Richard Granger
£20.00
13.5%. A savoury wine with herbs, smoke and bacon on the nose. Sophisticated with some liquorice, good  body with lots of  flavours and texture and a clean, acidic finish.
